Well the landfill bag today weighed in at 168g, and is only the size of a full pencil case thanks to the tips from over on My Zero Waste .
I had always tried to compact things as small as possible but the bags just seemed to puff back up with air, however by using a tiny bit of sellotape to secure said package it has remained tight and compact.
Glad the tips about compacting your landfill parcels helped :) Can you tell me how you do your savoury mince - do you put carrots and onions in it? I think DD might like it as a meal. I like your idea of not buying on a whim and menu planning instead. I keep trying it, but fail, but I like reading about what other people do :)
ReplyDeleteHi Rae,
ReplyDeleteSavoury Mince
serves 6 adults
onion and leek diced and sauteed in olive oil, then add diced carrot, then add in 500g beef mince and cook until browned add handful of orange lentils, 1pint of beef stock, cook for approx 10 minutes on low stiring so they don't stick, , and then add 2tsp gravy browning, leave to simmer for approx 20 minutes stirring occassionally.
I then throw it all in the slow cooker on low for approx 4-6 hours.
If you don't have a slow cooker then I would leave it simmering for approx 1 hour until the carrots are cooked through and the lentils have melted into the gravy.
I then serve this with mash and sometimes yorkshires or I'll make a scone/cobbler topping and bake off in the oven for 30 minutes.
sounds fab - thank you. I reckon I could halve the quantities for my two :) I like that it has the veggies already in it...
