Creating Our Garden Area

Yesterday has seen and today will continue to see us creating our growing area in our back garden.

We have a glasshouse which yesterday we put up, and today we are going to create some beds to grow some veggies in.

I hope we can grow some tomaotes, cucumbers, carrots, beetroot, scallions, green beans, cut and come again lettuce, some herbs and some sunflowers for the birds. We already grow rhubarb, garlic and wild garlic.

Even though we have an organic veg box weekly, I will tweak it during the growing season to get the things we aren't growing.

I have a few seeds from the BBC DIG IN campaign and some others which I have bought.

  2. Oh how exciting! I hope you manage to get things done today to take you nearer your goal. I've never succeeded with garlic; would love to though! Good luck with everything, this will reduce your food budget for sure!

  3. Thanks, considering we have had the glass house for nearly 3 years and nothing has been done with it, we have done very well and apart from needing 2 new panes of glass it is all it situ ready to go.

We bought it secondhand and luckily the previous owner was fastidiuos in keeping instruction books etc as he gave us this as well, the frame travelled on the back of a trailer and so we just had to prepare the ground and base and then complete the glassing.

With the garlic we don't get alot but it helps keep peats away rom the rhubarb. The wild garlic is lovely just torn into a mixed leaf salad.
